dipping lips of red stoneware cups in porcelain cone 5 slip

I was wondering if anyone had tried using red stoneware mid-fire clay
(Cone 5) and contrasting this with dipping the rims in porcelain slip
of the same maturation temperature?

Are their any pointers to get the clays to behave together?

I tried finding the recipe for the clay and the slip but there are
none so figuring out a coefficient of expansion is impossible.
