Chris,
There is a product sold by Mayco called Magic Metallics. This is a
non-fired product that is easy to use. You apply a base coat of the metal
finish you want and add a medium to cause rust or patinas. You stop the
process by putting their clear coat over the top. I have seen this process
demonstrated by one of the Mayco education staff and it is simple and
quick.
