help! paragon a66b

We just got a Paragon High Fire Kiln model A66B from a friend. 24"X24" 7 sided kiln.

It's called a high fire kiln but is says the max temp is 2300 degrees.  Im confused, we normally fire ^10 at the studio and thought that high fire kilns would reach temps that would allow for ^10.  Any ideas?

By the way there is no kiln sitter so we plan on using witness cones and any suggestions on proper use would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Pat - For most multi-sided stacked top-loading kilns 2300=B0F is the
max rated temperature. Given the thickness of the walls (2.5" or 3")
it just doesn't have the insulating where with all to reach ^10
without taking quite some time to get there. The brick is probably
2300=B0F rated which is another probable reason for the max
temperature rating.

The term 'high fire' can refer to anything above ^4

or so. Many electric kilns which might properly be

called 'high-fire' won't reach above ^8 or so without

putting undue strain on the elements and softbrick.

(Most electric kilns in good working order are capable

of firing hotter that their stated limit, but you'll

wear them out fast.)

Just a thought....... I bought a Paragon used. No kiln sitter. I =
called Dawson and Bob was extremely helpful guiding us through all our =
questions. I think it cost around $70 for the basic sitter. Recently, I =
bought a large used Crusader kiln and am installing the Dawson ramp =
sitter with delay "on" timer so I can save on our electric using the =
night rates. If you're interested go to http://www.kiln-sitter.com/ . =
You can see the products there and get contact info.

As to cone 10.... I fire my Paragon and the ^10 cones flop over just =
fine. =20
