Hey, now THERE is an idea for the Clayart Room: The Clayart Zoo! BYO

Could have a "critter exchange".

Creative Industries displayed the wheel
for throwing teeny, smaller-than-most-
miniatures pots. I, and Veena R. among others, bought one and =
thoroughly enjoy
working with it. My only problem is that
I'm still hesitant to glaze such tiny pots ....
afraid I'll lose all detail. I may have to
go the oxide route .... or maybe sulfates....
fortunately, no problem storing the little ones while
I ponder the decorative possibilities.

In the Mojave where I filled in a block of
spare time today (not enough time to drive back out in the desert ... =
too long a time
to do nothing) wandering around
a new "boutique," listening to comments
in the ceramics section.

Based on the oohs and aaahs over pink
or blue pigs that play music when a quarter
is dropped through the slot, I'd say that the straw hats with hot-glued =
flowers would be
a hot ticket there, too. They were buying the pigs, as well as the =
endless plaques with sentimental but non-subtle words curlicued across =
the=20
surfaces ..... such as, "My sister is my best friend. My best friend is =
my sister. Can it get better than this?" My friend, the owner, said =
that she can't keep the pigs nor the plaques in
stock.... has a woman over in Fresno who
makes them for her. I said, "Why not the
same plaque substituting"dad" or "mom" or "brother ... or ...?" My =
friend said, "What a good idea! I'll tell my woman. You are so clever! =
Except...... do you think it would
tacky up the display? The sister ones sell
so well." I agreed that it might.

I am aware, by the way, that there are great pigs created by some fine =
clay artists .... crocodiles, too.... and horses... The boutique pigs =
would not belong in the same sty with those that claybuds might describe =
as "great." =20
