the artist's life

Short story
I work in a comunal studio....There is a guy who has been there =
about a year....mostly on Sunday....He has spent a good life doing what =
ever it is that made him able to relax and do a little pottery.....Well, =
since the first time I saw him around while I was there I can depend on =
him being within earshot, and usually sitting right next to me =
observing....and asking questions....He is a quick study and has reached =
the point where his work is a sort of caricature of my own....He is not =
the first who thought to do what I do to pots but he is the most =
dedicated to it....
This morning he had three decent (if somewhat lumpy) vases he had =
added a flare on the lip too....I complimented him on his obvious =
progress in throwing, and he asked me if I would like to carve one of =
them....I told him I would carve two maybe but one would be mine to keep =
and one would be his....I saw this as a way to get to carve a couple of =
nice vases without the step of throwing them and a way to get one of my =
pieces in his hands without him having to pay me and at the least =
expense to myself....He said, "Oh Boy," or something and I went to =
carving the first one....When I was halfway done he informed me that I =
was to carve all three vases....I said, "no ...I do one for me and one =
for you".....He said, "No you were going to carve all three." He was =
adamant...Rather than knock him out, I decided we could settle the issue =
with a coin flip....I lost of course....So I spent a good part of the =
afternoon carving vaes for him....When I was halfway through the second =
one he starts telling me which one would be mine....I said, "I will give =
you first choice and then I get second and you get the third"....He =
said, "No...I get these two and you get that one; These two are about =
the same size and that one is a little shorter..".......They don't much =
match after I get through with them but once again I didn't knock him =
outHEHEHE.....
Then he starts telling me how we are going to work together and he =
is going to have sales at this house and....won't that be great....Also =
he had some idea that he was going to sell all thoose many pieces we =
colaberated on at a rate WAY below my usual price....I think he thought =
my stuff should go for the same price his =
would....AHHHHAHAHAHA.....Maybe since he is having such a hard time =
achieving my polish he is gonna be throwing his ass off and just let me =
carve them for him...He's gonna retire on MY potsHOHOHO
Lesseeee....He has about 100 days of good solid art class under his =
belt and I have been an artist since I was a f**king baby and he is =
going to get the bigger piece of every pie......and I guess I'm gonna be =
his boyHEHEHE....
Being an artist means getting crap to eat with a smile from both =
the jealous ones who think they should be above you and crap to eat with =
a smile from those who think they could do a good job of using =
you....It's been the same every where I go....
This has been one more ugly story from the life of the artist...

So, what did you do in the end with this guy? If you didn't spit in his
eye, I guess you are on your way to sainthood or something. Gosh.
Best regards,
Carol
