Dear Eleanora,
Yes somebody has actually seen the stainless degraded by wrapping with fibre-
I did it and within a year the stainless started to degrade seriously. What
people probably don't realise is that there are many grades of stainless-so
what will work for one year and make of kiln may not work for another type.
L&L kilns are a really class act and may use a better grade of stainless-my
experience is with a Skutt and I can say without a doubt that Skutt stainless
will degrade very rapidly. I also live in Florida with it's high humidity
which probably accelerates the degredation.

Because my kiln does not have a stainless steel banding, but just rusting
ordinary steel, I would not cover that part with any insulation.
Just thinking of doubling up on those parts where is no banding.
Then in winter, I make take it off, so as to use the heat in the rest of the
Pottery:-)
