THE CLAY STUDIO
welcomes new Artistic Director Jeffrey G. Guido

PHILADELPHIA, PA: After the departure of Artistic Director Jimmy
Clark last January, a national search led The Clay Studio to Jeff
Guido of Dearborn MI. Jeff has been working in the field of ceramics
for the past 18 years and brings extensive experience in both
non-profit and commercial gallery settings. Upon receiving his BFA in
Ceramics from Wayne State University, he worked in various positions
at Pewabic Pottery, a non-profit turn of the century Art Pottery and
ceramic arts learning center in Detroit. As Production Coordinator he
designed architectural installations and coordinated production of
hand-made tile for residential and commercial use, including major
Public Art Projects. As Gallery Director he coordinated and installed
the monthly exhibition program and managed sales and client
relations. He developed an artist lecture and workshop series and an
artist-in-residence program in collaboration with Pewabic's Art and
Education departments.

In 1991 Jeff left Pewabic to become Director of Habitat/Shaw Gallery
in Farmington Hills MI, focusing on ceramic sculpture. He represented
a stable of nationally and internationally recognized artists,
developed a local and national collector base and mounted over 60
exhibitions of significant historic and contemporary ceramic works.
In 1995 he became Owner/Director of Shaw/Guido Gallery in Pontiac MI,
which specialized in historic, modern and contemporary ceramics.
Since 1998 he has been a craftsman in his own Full Circle Studio,
creating slip-cast tableware and ceramic tile. He also developed and
taught an Arts program for children, as part of a home school
enhancement program.

Jeff is completing a commission for a major tile mural and fulfilling
other commitments before he joins The Clay Studio staff later this
fall. Many thanks to Chair Gail M. Brown and her Search Committee-
Arcadia University Professor Paula Winokur, Clay Studio Board
Vice-President Marc Grainer, Resident Artist Linda Cordell and
Associate Artist Marian McGee- for their exhaustive search, which
attracted many excellent candidates from across the country.

Board and Staff leaders believe Jeff Guido is a perfect match for the
Studio's aspirations. As we strive to meet the needs of an exciting
and creative field and expand the audience for ceramic art, we are
overjoyed to welcome Jeff Guido to The Clay Studio community.

The Clay Studio is a nonprofit, educational arts organization
dedicated to the promotion and development of the ceramic arts and
the work of new clay artists. The Clay Studio supports the ceramic
arts through its artist residencies, gallery, studio space, school,
educational & outreach programs, and permanent collection. The Clay
Studio believes in promoting broad access to the ceramic arts and in
affirming the importance of ceramic arts alongside other art forms.
Accordingly, it gears its programs to all levels of interest and
proficiency.
