Surfing with Helen Bates - urls from August 3rd., 2002

The Auckland Studio Potters:
http://www.ceramics.co.nz/
A pottery organization with a major focus on teaching ceramics at levels ranging
from beginners on up.
There's a link from here to Peter Lange's amazing "Brick Boat":
http://www.geocities.com/brickboat2002/
An anagama kiln built on the Aukland Studio Potters property then floated to
Peter's home where it was to be installed.

The Ceramic Study Group of Western Australia
http://members.iinet.net.au/~sujon/ceramicstudygroup/
Features "Armchair Potting with Mike Kusnik."
Links to photos of a salt firing and a group clay dig.
Members Gallery: Raku Works by Francine Haines & some links to other members'
sites.

Sandra Dolph.
http://www.gulfislands.com/cedargrovepottery/
Cedar Grove Pottery on Galiano Island, BC, Canada
Work in Raku and Lichen glazes.
One page site with just a few pots, but good form and design and well finished
appearance.
Images can be enlarged without too much pixilation in a photo editor if you want
a closer look.

Larry Watson:
http://www.watsonclay.com/
This "Java" site allows you to click on the mouse on work within the various
collections
in the two Gallery pages and zoom just a couple of the items portrayed at a time
(or similar ones.)
A second layer of zooming is also available from there.
Watson is a self-taught potter working in Kentucky.
The ware is functional, high fired work.
The additions are sometimes ornate; some glazes don't cover the pieces fully.

"New Mexico Experience" (British site)
http://www.fscoverseas.org.uk/newmex.htm
This is a course being run by British archaeologist and potter Carolyn
Postgate. She has
arranged for local experts Thomas Merlan, former director of the New Mexico
Historic Preservation
Division; Frances Levine, an ethnohistorian; Gail Tierney, who is working on a
comparative study
of plant use and agriculture of southwestern native peoples, to tutor this
course.
Photo gallery: "New Mexico Experiences"

Photo Gallery from previous trip - some pottery photos included:
http://www.fscoverseas.org.uk/newmex95/newmex01.htm
Firing micaceous pottery on the ground:
http://www.fscoverseas.org.uk/newmex95/newmex06.htm
In Netscape, to zoom pictures right click the mouse pointer over the thumbnail
images then left click on "View Image". The photo thumbnails don't come up in IE
but enter these urls to see the zoomed images:
http://www.fscoverseas.org.uk/newmex95/newmex06.jpg
http://www.fscoverseas.org.uk/newmex95/newmex07.jpg
http://www.fscoverseas.org.uk/newmex95/newmex08.jpg
Buying pottery from Jemez Pueblo at Santa Fe:
http://www.fscoverseas.org.uk/newmex95/newmex16.htm
Netscape: image is full size - no further zooming available.
For IE: load this url:
http://www.fscoverseas.org.uk/newmex95/newmex16.jpg
(This is a quite a rarity to me, that Netscape works better with a site than IE
does.)
