I made some of these once for a little Kiln I built that used the Kaolin
fiber...I made the 'buttons' doing 'paddy-cake', that is, in the palms of my
hands.

They were about two inches across, rounded of lozenge shape...maybe 5/16ths
of an inch thick in the center...I imagined the slight roundness of them to
anticipate the way they would crush into the Kaolin wool...then put some
small holes in them, for what would be bits of scrap 'nichrome' wire to go
through for the binding of it...

Was easy to do that way too...

Worked nice.
