> I can only speak for myself, but the idea of sending $10 or 20 bucks
felt embarrassingly "too little" and so I never sent anything.. I
suspect that others felt the same way and it would might interesting to
hear from other folks as to why they didn't contribute .

However if some of us of us sent $5 or !0 each , we could get what
would be an impressive sum(in Afghanistan only..$100 American dollars
would go a long way) and we could feel like generous benefactors with
absolutely no pain.

The problem at present is how to get money there, and several other
claybuds seem to be researching that question as well ; one of us is
bound to get a name , and when we do , I would be willing to coordinate
the effort, but will do nothing till we find out how to get the dough
there.

Despite what Mel says, I am as trustworthy as any American CEO(couldn't
resist)

my experience has been that many want
to help others, but the reality is:

no checks get sent.

i asked last year for help for the clayart fund.
a plea to almost three thousand potters.
we put up ten thousand dollars, hoping it would be matched.....
we got one check for 20 dollars. (thanks heidi.)

lots of talk, little action.

the clayart fund is never a dollar gift.
it is an equipment gift, given in case someone loses
their studio, etc.

i am not in the position as moderator to
have a money collection.

if elca (one who can be trusted totally) wants
to collect and send...wonderful.
but, i would not be too hopeful.

i have been there.

Mel,
You should have embarrassed us last year with that statistic!
It's been my experience that potters are very generous albeit a bit absent
minded!
