majolica tiled table

I use 1/4" hardibacker. It's the material used behind you shower tiles.
You can find it at Home Depot stores. It's easy to cut to size... just score
and snap off.
I use it on indoor/outdoor mosaics and they have held up really well. I
haven't used anything underneath.... it doesn't seem necessary. If the 1/4"
seems too thin it comes 1/2" also.

I wouldn't use only plywood for outdoors though. I guess you could, but I
think of
the durocrete is more natural to use with tile.
