Joyce,

I enjoyed seeing the Gordon Hutchens web site. Nice work. Reminded me
of the work of Linda Brendler who wrote a master's thesis on crystals
and reduction on cool down. It is at the University of Puget Sound in
Tacoma, WA. I think she graduated in 1971. She was an undergraduate
student of Herbert H. Sanders, as I was. Who had done lots of work on
crystaline glazes before computer controls. I remember Dr. Sanders
holding the temperature of his Globar kiln by anticipating the shift in
temp and changing the position of the switch in advance of the pyrometer
registering the change (slow analog pyrometers back then). He did
some work with rare earths as coloring oxides. Some showed wild color
changes under black lights.

Anyway, perhaps the library at UPS would make a copy and send Linda's
thesis to interested parties.

Ps, does anyone out there know if Linda is still potting? Last I knew
she was working in Modesto, California.
