wood kiln directory?

Our local potters guild rents a huge wood kiln in seagrove once a year.
It's pretty inexpensive when shared by the group, we just have to load,
stoke for 2 days, and when cool, unload and cleanup.

It's a couple of hours from Charlotte, so we set up a stoking schedule so
that you can come back to Charlotte rather then staying in the area.

I'm reading Jack Troy's book, and he mentioned there having been a
listing years ago of wood fired kilns around the country. Anybody know
whether there still is such a thing? I'd love to finagle an invitation
to go stoke and learn someplace...

Yours, kelly in ohio (pouting because mel drove right by my house on his
way from ann arbor to columbus and didn't come for dinner. hmmmph.)

Kelly,
You could kill a few birds with one stone by coming to the
Minneapolis/St.Paul area.
You probably could join Richard Beresnahan out at St Johns University and
help him fire his huge anagama? You could stop by Mel's place in Minnetonka
and bug him, you could stop by my place in Northeast Minneapolis and see a
mold makers studio, and you could stop by the St Croix River valley and see
a bunch of potters who fire wood (not sure about stoking though).
If you're around in September you could hit the Renn Fest and maybe stoke a
kiln out there (used to be a kiln out there not sure these days?)
There's a few I've not mentioned, maybe Tony might know a few?
I do think however St Johns could be your best bet for a true community
anagama experience.

Take care
Jeff Longtin
