To Cone or Not To Cone? =20

There has been discussion on the subject of coning clay while centering =
before. Sometimes I would, and sometimes I wouldn't. Sometimes I had =
troublesome air bubbles, and sometimes I didn't.

This morning I threw two bowls using the same nice plastic well-aged =
clay. The first I didn't cone as the clay was soft enough and seemed =
very workable. I didn't want to handle the clay too much and get it too =
soft and wet. That bowl ended up with three annoying air bubbles on the =
inside surface that I'll have to try and smooth out later.

The second bowl, I decided to cone 3 times. That bowl had no air =
bubbles.

Now, I really do have a very hard time believing that coning the clay =
can get rid of air bubbles. However... I guess I will cone the clay =
from now on since it seemed to work.

... we've finally had a couple of days of cooler weather and some =
welcome rain, and I feel energized...

An age old argument.....

Anyway I have made 90 bowls in the past 30 hours, and
all of them were from soft new clay that had been
weighed and wedged then thrown... I don’t
traditionally cone when the clay is new but I do if I
throw the ball on the bat off center.. So most of
these I brought up once just to aid in centering... My
husband wedged probably 30 of these weighed balls... I
have had three bowls that had bubbles... I don’t know
if they are from his wedging or gawd forbid from
mine.. But what does this prove for or against your
theory??

NOTHING....

As I read in a post I think this week something to the
effect of do what is comfortable to you .... Maybe it
was Dawg or maybe it was Tony.. Or maybe I just like
giving them credit hehehehe...
