Hello Clayarters,
A friend of mine just moved to Christ Church, NZ, after falling in love with
ceramics in Australia and is looking for a place to learn/work in her new
place. Any suggestions?
TIA

Dear Michal

I am sure NZ potters like Michael, Maggie and Lyn will be able to help more.
They are nowhere near Christchurch (indeed, I have not noticed anyone from
Christchurch on Clayart to date) but are a lot closer than me! Otherwise,
your friend should start by looking at courses available from local schools
and institutes. In addition, maybe find a working space or potter to help? I
don't know if the New Zealand Society of Potters still exists, but this was
the last address I had:

NZ Society of Potters,
c/o Jennie Tassell,
100 Lochhead Road,
RD 6,
Tauranga.

They may be able to help find working potters in the Christchurch area, who
will maybe know of classes and courses.

Also try at the local stores and suppliers. She should look in the yellow
pages or try:
Cobcraft Potters Supplies Ltd.,
24 Essex Street,
Christchurch
Phone 0-3-366 7229

Your friend may find it would be better to move to Dunedin, south of
Christchurch or Nelson in the north of the South Island! The North Island
has many potters too, with high concentrations in Auckland, Coromandel and
other centres.

Best wishes

Your friend should call into see John Shearer at Cobbcraft Supplies, Essex
Street, Linwood (phone number in the Christchurch phonebook). The Cobbcraft
shop sells pottery & ceramic supplies, co-ordinates classes and has a
noticeboard which advertises second-hand kilns etc. It is a good place to
start.

Hello Clayarters,

For various reasons it has been about two years since I have been a part
of Clayart and am glad to be back on here !

We are contemplating a move to New Zealand within the next year and
wonder if any Clayarters living in that country would be so kind as to
email me (off list ) about the clay market potential there, the clay
community and what the various regions are like (North Island vs. South
Island).

Any information would be greatly appreciated !
