At the risk of annoying Vince I'd like to say I, for one, think the
Appalachian Center for the Crafts is to blame for the sorry situation
experienced by the Clennell's.
Yes, the INS are strict bastards but The ACC should have anticipated that.
Expect the Clennell's to fill out their own paperwork? What the hell is that
about?
The ACC, a respected arts organization. should have attorney's consulting
them on such matters.
They've got the bucks, give me a break!
If you pretend to be a professional organization ACT like a professional
organization!
This sorry situation is an insult to all potters, period!

Jeff -
What the hell did you expect to accomplish by this outrageous rant? This
kind of completely irresponsible loudmouth blowhard post COULD actually
damage our reputation, and you should be ashamed of yourself.

We try very hard to stretch our fairly meager and constantly fluctuating
state budget (in a state that does VERY LITTLE to support the arts - we
really have to fight for what we get) to present the very best academic
program and workshops we can offer, and we go to a great deal of effort in
this endeavor. We tried to do this LEGALLY, and if we did overlook
something and helped cause this mess, we feel terrible about that. It is a
very hard way for us to learn, and we will never make this mistake again.
But as I said in another post, there has never been a problem before in
having Canadian artists do workshops at the Craft Center. This is a new
dynamic, and it is one we must all work to deal with by writing our state
and federal legislators.

At the risk of annoying Vince? Yep, you did. You do not know a damn thing
about us, and I suggest you stick to posts where you have some kind of clue
what the hell you are talking about.

Yes Vince you are right.
I don't know you.
I do, however, know INS folks. This whole INS "Big bad government" tone to
most of these posts are...annoying shall we say.
Not all INS folks are these evil, saddist people that seem to be suggested by
so many. I talk to these folks weekly and sometimes have very intersting
conversations.
The INS is not fully to blame in this situation AND NEITHER is the ACC.
I was just responding to all the "INS evil" posts.
This situation is just an unfortunate outgrowth of 9-1-1.

I also talk to university officials regularly who are still bringing in
foreign born professors all the time. Its not impossible to do. It just
requires very, very accurate paperwork.

Short of hiring a attorney if you guys want to consider the do-it-yourself
approach my company produces several reference books that are commonly found
on most immigration attorneys bookshelves. They might be helpful to help you
guys anticipate these kinds of problems in the future. The three most
popular are: The Immigration Procedures Handbook, The Labor Certification
Handbook, and The H1-b Handbook. These books enable attorneys to stay abreast
of the latest issues in the immigration arena. As this area saw alot of
change since Elian Gonzalez and 911 we've gotten a ton of calls on them.

As I said, immigration can be a quagmire and now a few of our own now know
that firsthand. It is very unfortunate.

Take care Vince
