Hi Elizabeth
After reading your description of the size and scale of the free
floating toes
I would agree with Snail...
Try the most vitrified , strongest -when fired , clay you can find,
rather than a grogged sculpture body
Go toward porcelain...glasslike
it will give you the detail you desire
luscious glaze response
and the highest fired strength per each tiny toes-y millimeter.

though maybe you will need to
dry them on downy cotton puffs and ship them
complete with protective sheepskin booties......

I think it is so great, all the different paths we take!
