glaze defects

Hi,

I read M.L.'s post and remembered somewhere that I
seen some pots that had a serious glaze defect that
looked like a treasure. They had sanded the outside of
the bubbled glaze to allow the under-color to show.
I'd say it was a major crater glaze. Very nice!
Personally I would intentionally make a glaze like
this for many art pieces if I had time. I would
consider it more a perfection of a glaze than a defect
if I was able to achive the intended results I started
with. There's a million thoughts on defining
functional from non-functional to utilitarian. known
safe liner glazes are always a welcome thought when
all else is in question.

Subject: Glaze "Defects" on Non-Functional Pots

Question: Is there anything "wrong" to use glaze
defects on =
non-functional pots? I'm talking about pots that I
cannot imagine
=
anyone using for food, that have a nice safe glaze on
the inside
anyway. =
I also cannot see anyone putting them in a
dishwasher.

Among the very few cups I sold yesterday were cups that insidehad good liner glaze
outside up matte glaze and down crater glaze. If these glazes were forbidden I would
have much more space in my studio!
