stack temperature

I would agree with this thought. If you have to know the temperature, =
why not get an ancillary pyrometer and put the probe at the top of the =
stack, or bore a hole through one of the upper bricks and insert the =
probe into the cavity.
Any formula will have letters where you will substitute raw data. This =
seems long winded when the temp can be measured.
Just putting a steel rod at the top where that flue gas will impinge on =
it may help after dark. Just watch for the red glow and estimate the =
degrees. About 550 Celsius is first visible red.

I have measured the temperature at the TOP of a 12 ft high 9X9 inch inside
chimney of a 96 cu foot cone 10 kiln. 750 deg F which by the way is the
rating for commercial grade double wall stainless steel pipe. Tracy
