I'm just back from Italy and the most inspiring workshop I've ever
attended. Here are a few notes to inspire you to sign up as soon as Marcia
posts the information for next year.
Our first night in Certaldo: an informal feast of crostini, pasta, salad,
and vino rosso, of course. Heading home, the olive groves are full of
fireflies. A magical beginning to our two week workshop in architectural
ceramics with Marcia Selsor. La Meridiana, in the heart of Tuscany, is a
beautiful workshop filled with light and with the light-hearted spirit of
its owner, Pietro Madelena. Our group worked very intensely to create two
large columns ( each in two sections ) and an arch to join them as a
doorway surround. Along with learning construction and installion
techniques for large scale pieces, we also had to learn how to function as
a team in making and executing design decisions.
Tea and coffee breaks were on a terrace with views of the rolling hills
outlined by dark cypress trees. Each workday a four course gourmet meal was
provided by Cristina, our charming chef. Afterwards, a siesta, a quiet
read, a chance to play with Charlie, the dog. Then back to work from 3 to 6
or 7.
Included in the program were four day trips to San Gigmignano and Volterra,
Florence, Siena, and Pistoia. Marcia did a tremendous amount of work months
ahead of time to make special events possible for us - getting tickets to
the Uffizi Museum so we didn't have to spend three hours in line; and
booking a visit to Celli Parc, a private sculpture garden. We had a
wonderful picnic en route to Pistoia, complete with champagne and birthday
cake for one of the participants!
Watch for photos and more stories coming next week, after my studio tour
(www.capeannartisans) is over.

Hi Marty,

Wow! What a great report from Marcia's workshop! I've been wanting to
participate in one of her workshops in Italy since I first heard about them,
but unfortunately... the timing hasn't been quite right for me yet... but
hearing your review has left me salivating for the experience all over again.
::::sigh:::: Thanks for bringing your experience in Tuscany into my home. I
went to Tuscany in 1996 for a vacation with my #1 support person... was the
best trip of our lives... we miss that place so much!

Best wishes,

Ken
