Hi Clayart buddies, for those of you from this area of Ohio, the Valley Art
Center show which was this past weekend was a huge success. We had a steady
stream of visitors/customers both Saturday and Sunday. People came early,
stayed late, lots of them walking around with their purchases and it was a
very happy crowd even though it was hot and sunny. The art center Members
Booth did very well. Personally I think it served more than one purpose. It
gave some of us the opportunity to see what it is like to be in a well known
art show with lots of traffic. I heard laments that 2D wasn't selling and
3D
was. It was also valuable to get instant feedback from folks on our work.
Mine was a very positive experience and I have to give credit where it is
due. Some of my favorite new work has cane handles which I recently learned
to make from Sheila and Tony Clennell's excellent-worth-every-penny video.
People really liked it and literally I heard more than one person say,
"Look,
she made those." Or, "Look those are hand made after the pot was fired."
Best feeling was when they would hold something up to buy and see my nametag
and say, "Oh, are you the artist who made this?" I call myself a potter,
but it felt good to hear that too! Just wanted to share the results since I
told you about the show last week. Toni Smith in Ohio
