Hi Ilene,

Well, you are in for a clay-viewing treat. When you come to Berkeley (to
see Rikki Gill and the Berkeley Potters Guild) you should also visit all the
other long-standing West Berkeley group and single potteries as well. These
are all working studios with galleries. Earthworks (the currently 6-member
co-op where I am) has been on Eighth St. about 30 years. Another larger
group is The Potter's Studio, and some individuals you shouldn't miss are
Gary Holt and Mary Law. And last, but not least, 2 local galleries:
Sebastian-Ward Gallery (a new place) and Trax Gallery, which recently
relocated Fifth St. (Trax handles out-of-area potters like Warren MacKenzie
and Julia Galloway). You could easily spend a day in West Berkeley alone.

And if the foregoing doesn't wear you out, you can check out the
glass-blowing studios in our building and then head over to ACCI Gallery
(art and various crafts including pottery) in central Berkeley. Earthworks
is usually open every day but some of the studios are only - or mainly -
open to the public on weekends, so either plan to hit Berkeley on the 22nd
or make arrangements ahead of time, particularly if you want to try to see
Gary Holt and Mary Law - I can help with phone numbers & addresses, as I'm
sure Rikki can.

Too bad you're not coming a bit earlier as June 8-9 & 15-16 happens to be
the annual ProArts East Bay Open Studios with some 400 artists and
craftspeople all over the East Bay participating this year.

See you in June I hope,

Diane Winters
