Your instructor is right.
Throw it away.
If you have time for a few bisque firings,
you have time to make a better one.

Susan,

I would not suggest trying to keep this a functional piece.
You could use it as a test for repair. After you repair and glaze fire it
glue the lid on it so it can't be used. You can then have a non-functional
tea pot which may be used as garden art etc. There are 3 teapots in my
garden right now. The first 2 were seconds the third I threw expressly for
the garden with a faux lid and spout.
