Hello Everyone,

We will be hosting an international Ceramics program at Tacoma Community
College in Tacoma, Washington.
This workshop will feature Professors from China, Japan and Turkey.
There will also be a group of students from Turkey and Japan who will
attend the program with their professors.



International Ceramics Symposium and Workshop/ June 25 - 28, 2002
Tacoma Community College will host a workshop series in Tacoma,
Washington.


On June 25th a series of workshop will begin at TCC. On Tuesday June
25th Professor Zehra Cobanli Head of the Ceramics department at Anadolu
University in Eskisehir, Turkey will present a slide lecture on Iznik
Ceramics and Ezgi Hakan will speak about Contemporary Turkish Ceramics.
In the afternoon Professor Cobanli will give a demonstration of
techniques used in Turkey. Professor Cobani's work often uses slips to
create works with strong graphics components. See her work at:

On June 26th Professor Zheng Ning is scheduled to give a slide lecture
on Chinese ceramics and he will present a demonstration of Chinese
Ceramic techniques. Professor Ning is known for his brush painted
decoration on porcelain and on stoneware.

On June 27th Professor Fumio Shimada will show slides of Japanese
Ceramics and then present a demonstration of Japanese throwing
techniques. Professor Shimada teaches at Tokyo National University of
Fine Art and Music.

On June 28th Rick Mahaffey and Reid Ozaki will show slides and
demonstrate American ceramic techniques.

Also on June 28th there will be a reception for the workshop attendees
of an exhibition of works by the workshop presenters and the students
that travel from Turkey and Japan to Tacoma.

The exhibition will be open during the summer quarter.

The cost is approximately $125.00. If you do not wish to go through
