Car kiln builders, would you please share the details of how your car deck
and door are constructed? I am rebuilding a 45 cuft sprung arch forced air
,two rear burners, downdraft kiln that had a bricked up door into a newly
designed door/deck[bed] style carkiln.I am interetsted in brick
types, contruction, post configuations, and steel angle iron support
construction.Presently my kiln is all APGreen 2600 hardbrick
exterior,ports,
flue, and floor with soft walls, arch and brick up dooor.I am getting too
old to reach in to load shelves and rebrick the door much longer. If you
will share drawings or schematics of your car construction, I'd be happy to
see them and pay for postage/mailing and xerox costs

Rather than put people to the trouble of xeroxing, drafting, and replying in
detail, why not go and buy Nils Lou's book, "The Art of Firing?" I believe
there are rather comprehensive plans there for his car kiln design, which is
hard to beat. In short, it is a multi-layer brick design, with the middle
layer extending beyond the other two, fitting over extended bricks in the
kiln body, ultimately sealing the kiln gasses in. The extended bricks are
also tapered so that as you push the car in, there is a stoppering effect
for a tight seal.
Best,

I think I would have to agree with Richard on this one, however I would add
to the list of resource books, Robert Piepenburg's book, The Spirit of Clay.
It also has excellent pictures and details for building a car kiln, then you
could choose the design of your liking.
