Yep. I would bring the plastic up and over your
wooden form, though, not just underneath. Clay
around the edges may not be sufficient to keep
the plaster confined unless your form is weighted.
Tape the folds of plastic at the corners so it
will be tidy and plaster won't be trapped in the
folds. (Make it like bed-sheet corners in reverse
and tape well.) It will release just fine without
a release agent.

Or weight the wooden form.

under our work before using plaster. but if your'e
real worried after you've put your cottle around and
held it in place with clay paint the plastic with
liquid soap that acts as a release. Cheers

Another thing to do is to just set the forms up as a flask on the
surface on which you plan to keep the plaster drying slab. Line the plaster
form with plastic as suggested. Pour the plaster and don't worry about the
plastic underneath. Just trim any excess that is overlapping the flask form
with a razor or sharp knife or just leave the flask around the plaster (this
is what I did and it has protected the edges quite well.)

I'm planning to make a plaster slab to dry clay on. I've just read the
section on pouring plaster in Vince's book. I'd like to pour on the floor as
it is the smoothest surface I have, if I lay down plastic under my wooden
form and the seal the edges with clay, will the plaster release from the
plastic?

Hey Sarah,
Shouldn't be a problem. Plaster and plastic typically release really well. I
would just caution you to weigh down your wood frame. Sometimes clay alone
is not strong enough to hold it. Not sure how deep you want to pour but
nothing worse than pouring gallons of plaster only to watch the frame raise
up and plaster spill everywhere.
Not one of those "surprise" events you want to experience!
Good Luck

yes, but you may get wrinkles, unless plastic is very thick.

I would also have some thought to how far a gallon of liquid plaster can
spread if the clay seal fails....
