those psoas muscles: lower back pain

updated fri 3 may 02

So it seems that increased time in the studio madly producing bending over
the wheel - which, by the way, is raised so really I'm not bending all that
much - has resulted in shortened psoas abdominal muscles, which, I've been
told, are very hard to stretch out again. The result is lower back pain and
hip pain.

Anyone on the list have success working with these deep muscles?

Yoga.
My teacher has a whole psoas stretching set of postures: when
you're done you can barely walk. Find a good yoga teacher....

Jennifer, off to yoga! Think I'll ask for the psoas
treatment....I'll let you know if I can relate some of the
postures to you...

Yoga is great, so is the movement form called Continuum, Tai Chi to a les=
ser degree, and with the right teacher-voice lessons are fantastic.

I'm told that those exercise balls are great for helping those tight
muscles. You can lean on them every which way, but to stretch the abs, you
lean on them belly up. Woulda been great for Michealangelo. Anyway, do
your reading "on the ball". Just let both ends of your body hang all over
and let gravity gently draw those muscles out. Balancing and relaxing fully
takes practice, and you'll just have to tell the kids it's your turn.
Alone. Without them. (Remember, I said relaxing fully....) Light candles,
meditate, pray, look over your work from upside down....get a different
perspective on things for some new ideas.

Try handbuilding from this position, if you really want a new "take" on it.
