limestone glazes

In the book "Out Of The Earth Into The Fire," Mimi Obstler (?) offers =
many charts and tables concerning clays/glazes/minerals/oxides etc. =
Several of her charts deal directly with limestone and its effect in =
glazes .... which
helped me determine how best to formulate and use limestone glazes on my =
own pots. My book is out on loan but should return this weekend. This =
is one of my favorite and most used books. I struggled mightily in the =
beginning .. still is a struggle since I have minimum experience for =
such .... well, not completely. #1 Support Person was a geology major =
and his intense interest as we moved west and then spent the next 30 =
years traveling all the "Blue Highways" we could find .. spilled over =
into my sensibilities. We'd neither one been further west than Texas, =
and I hadn't done that. Every time we saw some spectacular formation =
"just like in the textbooks," we'd stop and exclaim .... and I ... at =
that time in an effort to be part of his interest; now it's my own .... =
would hate myself an hour later for having asked, "What makes that =
cirque=20
so special?, "How was that esker formed?," "Why do they refer to it as a =
hogback?" "A hanging valley? Wow." "Moraines? Side moraines? End =
moraines?" This last was in Alberta, Canada .... impressive glacial =
country. These are examples for which I still specifically recall the =
responses 30 years later.

I'll research more if you'd like; then if you don't receive the info =
you need from the list, I'll see what I can do. This is not my forte =
... life is enough of a forte .... but I'm getting better all the time. =
Someday I MAY get to where Dannon was when she was three... maybe.

Joyce
In the Mojave understanding how others feel when they stumble onto =
Clayart with no conception of the numbers of posts daily .... recently =
found myself on a writers
list .... good list ...... but not for me.... don't even know how I got =
there ... must have signed up .... no recall ... nothing like the number =
of posts we receive, but still a nuisance ... finally some kindly soul =
took pity and told me how to undo whatever I'd done in the first place. =
I already miss them .....

Well, let's see.....three......ummmm......I can remember putting
a chicken in a barrel of rainwater to see if it could swim. It could not.
Trouble. I climbed halfway up the pasture fence to yell at the hogs,
trying out new words I'd heard the men using when they were
working them. More trouble. I used my new shoes for boats to
float down the creek. Serious trouble. Even though they
made good boats. Got the first of many-to-come honey bees
caught in my hair. Now THAT was terrifying trouble.

I bet you could do all those things, if'n you tried. Except maybe
the honey bees. And you don't be teasing after me, now.
