bat grabber

updated sat 13 aug 11

I have an endless supply of bats with loose holes and an extremely limited
budget. Out of desperation I bought one and it came right away and BOY DOES
IT WORK FANTASTICALLY!!! Some of my bats would wiggle an 1/8th of an inch
or more back and forth making centering clay over ten pounds really hard.
That squeezing the clay into the gaps never worked for me. But, with the
bat grabber the bats never move, not a bit, and it's like all my bats are
brand new. So basically, the price is incredible when you think about how
the life of your masonite bats will be extended.

I was wondering if anyone had used the bat grabber yet? I checked out the
website http://www.batgrabber.com . It looks pretty interesting and fairly
inexpensive if it works well. Any thoughts??

Did anyone out there buy a bat grabber and then decide it was not that
great? If so, I'd love to get it out of your way. I've been using one for
a year or so and it's starting to fall apart, and when I checked around I
saw that they are currently unavailable. Anyone care to pass one on? I'll
be happy to pay for it, of course.

Chris,
I use mine often. They really help when old bats have gotten worn.
Sorry to hear they are unavailable. I also use mine for trimming.
soft on the lips.
Wonder why they are unavailable. I thought they were a great idea.

It may be that they are having trouble with the material. When I reordered
some months ago they were using a material inferior to the original. It had
to have some kind of oil thoroughly washed out of it before it would hold
the bat and they don't last as well as the originals either. I too will
really miss them.

Evidently there is a problem with the source of the material they are made
of, perhaps temporary, but that's unclear at this point. Hopefully they
will get that worked out.

Yes, I have been trying to get one too. I am going to see how those soft
plastic mesh
mats that keep things from sliding around in the sink or drain pan might
work. Won`t be quite
the same, but, will only be out a $..if it doesn`t my draining pan can use
it.

Lela, who has been very gabby these days.. and where is Snail anyway?

Never seen one of these myself-but at one point I overheard another potter
was using a swimmers towel-that is like a thin sponge and found it similar to
the bat grabber-you might try a sports store.

Just a thought,

The swimmer's towel is found at target and also at walmart. I used them once
for backpacking.
they come in a transparent tube, and they are called Aquadry, PVA drying
towel. Sometimes in the swimming area, sometimes in the car cleaning area.
I will try them too!!!

Hello,

As you know, I really put my foot into my mouth over the bat grabber. It wa=
s
not until I read someone else's comment that I realized that they were
talking a tool to remove the bat from the wheel head. I want to apologize
for not understanding the question. We all make mistakes; however, this
mistake is embarrassing.

Try a different brand of drawer liner.. I use drawer liners a lot
when I travel between my metal paint palettes to keep them from
sliding around and I ve discovered that some drawer liners are still
' slidey" while others have much more grab to them . ( Wish I could
tell you brand names .. but I dont have any labels left.. )

Continental Clay sells a replacement product for Bat Grabber called "Bat
Gripper". It is blue, about 12 bucks and supposedly works the same.
