"fake" wood ash - not glaze

updated mon 6 may 02

Kurt Wild on sat 4 may 02

It seems to me that there is some confusion - quite possibly on my part. I
thought the original Clayart post was a request for a fake wood ash rather
than a fake wood ash glaze. I in turn posted recipes for fake (synthetic)
wood ash - recipes for substitutes for wood ash.

I know my post came through mixed up and I have offered to send anyone who
wants the recipes to contact me off list and I will send the recipes as an
email attachment. I have tried to send this information to in the body of
an email but it still looks screwed up. It seems only an attachment works.

Beyond that, if anyone knows how I can solve that problem I'd be pleased to
know.

Kurt

Pulled this from Clayart archives good place to visit you know

Here's one that I formulated and have used for a number of years. It is
best applied by spraying but can be dipped, poured, etc. You have to work
with the thickness to get the desired result. A light application will
"orange peel" like a salt glaze while heavier applications will run. Too
much thickness and you will get blistering. This glaze works well with most
oxides. It also works best on porcelain or with white slips but don't be
afraid to try anything...you never know. You can get this glaze to work at
cone 8 and 9 by substituting Ball Clay for Kaolin. You might want to do a
sub at cone 10 as well to observe the difference.

Fake ash glaze Cone 10 Ox. or Red.

Dolomite 8.0% by weight
Whiting 34.0
Potash Feldspar 5.0
Kaolin 33.0
Silica 20.0
