Hi Naomi,

I have been seriously looking at building one of these booths also. Here is
what I have found so far. I posted this last week.

>I just found out tonight and just wanted to let the list know, (in case
>anyone is trying to build a waterfall spray booth) that the DeVilbiss and
>Binks spray booth divisions were bought out by Team Blowtherm. I am now
>trying to get a catalog from them.

I just got the Team Blowtherm catalog in the mail. Even though I requested
information about spray booths with estimated 4 X 6 foot openings or less,
all I received were literature showing whole room booths for spraying cars.
The pictures did not give enough detail to suggest how to build one.

I have been contacted by another Clayarter who is interested in this idea
also. I am trying to track down an old Binks catalog that has their spray
booth line. DOES ANYONE HAVE AN OLD BINKS SPRAY BOOTH CATALOG?

I have found online some spraybooths for sale in the UK that are being sold
by a ceramic supplier.
http://www.cromartie.co.uk/hobbycraft/Pottery/spray_equipment.htm These
pictures have given a much better idea of what to do.

Would love to collaborate,
Sincerely,
Nikki Simmons

I just received a copy of the Nov. 1992 article by Bill Campbell about "An
Environmentally Safe Spray Booth". From what I'd read in some postings, I
thought the article included plans. It does have a cutaway side view, and a
description, but I'm at a loss as to how to build this. I had thought
"plans" were detailed, with measurements, etc. Soooo.....has anyone on the
list actually built one of these? Also, is there some way to vent--without
using this water system-- so that the spray particles can't return through
some open window?

Nikki,
Thanks for the reminder. I was hoping someone had actual specifications for
the booth. I'll let you know if I get any info.

Nikki
I could take some digital photos of my spray booth, and send a crude drawing
or two to help with the design.
You may also call me at 800 398 5840
I can help with all of the technical stuff. I can let you know what kinds
of
hardware to buy, and the part numbers. You can get everything that you need
from the GRAINGER catalogue.
This is not rocket science.
I have resisted putting this information on CLAY ART because I just do not
need to answer a lot of mail to people that aren't serious about using the
information.
If you do want my help please call me, and I will find a way for you to get
enough information to make a booth. I have been using mine for the past 15
or
more years and have had both the DEP and OSHA check me out.

Dear Bill,
.....and you don't think you won'Tt get requests now, lol.I am very
interested in your design and wonder if you could put it on your website
sometime, please?I am trying to figure how to adapt such a design to a
chipped
fiberglass showerstall I already own that couldn't be installed in the
home.

Hello all....
Okay.... so this my first attempt at posting.... I've been reading & using
Clayart list (for my learning research) for about 4 years off & on....I
suppose I'd be called a "lurker".... I don't receive the posts per se
(can't take the quantity of mail while job hunting). I only read the
archives, but I read the current weeks diligently & have since my layoff in
January. I feel like I am back in school..... doing self-study. And LOVING
it!!!

I do know numerous clayarters who post, Charlie & Linda Riggs, Kathy
Steinsberger (of NC & currently PA :), Ron Philbeck from Shelby & by way of
e-mails a few more.....

I am part of a studio 'class', which I believe Kathy dubbed Dan Finch's
Southern Pottery Plantation, in Eastern NC. Dan has a website & also has
some of the best workshops! (very reasonable prices too....) Anyway, he
has a beautifully crafted & finely functioning waterfall type spray booth.
Now mind you he & his family are incredibly talented & I believe his
younger brother helped design & build this spray booth.... There are no
pictures on his website, but at least you can see something of his
"plantation".... and check out the latest workshop. If anyone is
interested I could ask him about his waterfall booth..... You might now
want to inundate him with e-mails..... since he didn't post this info (&
he'll want to dispose of me for telling you all about his place,
lol!) His website link is below.

Dan Finch Pottery, Blueberry Nursery, & Homes for Bluebirds,
http://www.danfinch.com/

If you Ever have the opportunity to visit, do so! You'll fall in love with
the peacefulness of his little corner of the world..... he has had many
renowned potters as his workshop presenters & they always do!

having fun in the clay....

(near Raleigh, NC loving that it feels like summer, but knowing it is way
tooooo early yet.... wishing it were 'still spring' here..... Oh yeah, and
thanks to LP Skeen & Marcy M. it is working out that I get to attend the
Ian Currie workshop near G'boro this weekend!!! I got one of his books
last year..... I can't wait!!!)
(ps...... Julie Milazzo, did you get my other note to your e-mail, re:
"free firing"???)

Perhaps he could be convinced to post it on his website or write a magazine
article.

I'll check with him.... tomorrow or next Thursday (studio class days are
Thursdays)..... I know I have a lot of Glaze work tomorrow nite, so will
likely be using the booth & hopefully will remember to check with him....

(with the window A/C's running fullblast to beat the "summer heat", so
early for this!)

Hey all...
I did speak with Dan last nite..... He designed his waterfall booth & his
brother built it for him. He was going to draw me a sketch which I could
scan & send to anyone who was interested.... but we were interrupted by a
phone call & other (newer) 'students' wanting me to show them the glazing
process. I had a lot to do to.... I'll follow up with him again next week.
I know he doesn't mind sharing, but again, please don't inundate him with
requests, since I offered the info..... ;-) (he'll want to throw me out...
lol.....he is a busy man! :) I did mention someone's comment that they'd
like a shot on his website.... I think it was when we were getting
interrupted however soooo.... no response to that... :)

Well off to do other things so I can leave town at a reasonable time to get
to G'boro for the workshop..... Btw, Dan did mention ya'll are addicting
(Claryart & Clayarters that is!)
Have a great weekend all..... I will!
