First you buy a foot pedal designed for the voltage and amperage of the slab
roller. My husband ordered one on the internet. The information about the
kind you need is found on the motor. We bought one that came with an
electric cord, and (with the slab roller unplugged) my husband attached it
to the motor. I believe ours cost about $25.

I had used the slab roller for only a few weeks (complaining about the stiff
switch) when my husband surprised me by changing the dead man's switches for
the foot pedal. This was a few years ago, and we're having a hard time
remembering exactly what was involved, but I think this is it. The slab
roller is located in Colorado, and I'm in Pennsylvania and won't be in
Colorado until mid June, so I can't check it out right now, but I hope this
helps.

If you're not used to working with electricity, you might want someone who
is to do this for you. Fortunately my husband can handle this type of work,
among his many talents. I'm just the director.
