ot-summer vacation in co

updated tue 16 apr 02

Some of my very good arts-oriented friends are planning a 2 week vacation in
or near the Colorado mountains August 14-28 with their daughter (who will be
just 1 year old at the time-birthday in early August). They are on a limited
budget and want a relaxing time of hiking and sitting and cooking dinners.

They're looking for suggestions of not-expensive places to stay. They saw
places listed on the internet for "only" $2000 a week, and that is well
beyond their budget. They know that summers in CO are tourist season.
;-( She's never been there, and he was there as a child.

He is an opera singer, a baritone, performing in the Central City opera, and
she will come out to join him with their daughter. So the dates are NOT
flexible.

We always used to camp all over Colorado before we built the house (and they
may join us at the end of their vacation in our house) but she's still
considering if she's willing to camp with a one-year old. I told her that we
used to do it, with no problems when our now-adult kids still vacationed
with us. He's apparently a tent-camper from way back.

Any suggestions for them? They're not especially looking for city
activities, since they've spent a lot of time in various American cities
this year, where he was performing or understudying.

TIA for your suggestions.

Bonnie,

They may want to look into renting a VW Vanagon. They are a great upgrade
from tent camping and are a perfect size for two adults and a baby. In
Washington you can preregister at state parks over the internet. Colorado
may have a similar set up. Around here you can rent one for around $500.00 a
week. Ed
