Crap! First daughter put in the G&T. My husband and I were so pround, =
until I got involved in the program. In second grade she came home with =
a note pad that said,"I am special". I hit the roof. Went on my rant, =
every kid is special, we just happen to have one that fits in all their =
round holes. We pulled her out of the program and put her back in with =
the "regular" kids. She is graduating from High School in a few months, =
on her way to Marine Biology. Great. She hates art and is just =
interested in other things. I volunteer at the High School in the art =
dept. From the art room I see many kids across the street smoking, =
spiked hair, pierced from one end to the other. The Administration =
doesn't know what to do with them. I said, those are the kids I want to =
work with. They are the most creative kids in this small school. =
Frustration!!! I do not have a degree in teaching and there is no room =
or funding in this school system for these kids. The art teacher is a =
nice person but her favorite color is beige and how many times can you =
draw your hand??? Sorry, to rant but this gifted thing just hits a raw =
nerve. When school systems start to realize every kid is gifted the =
educational system will be a better place.

One of those kids that made it through by skin of her teeth, thanx to =
one very dedicated history teacher that took an interest. He believed in =
me even when my parents gave up. God Bless him.

Within the system, the "gifted" kids fit within political
expediency. They are litle different from those persons who may play
superior basketball, or whatever 'game' fits the demands of the admin and
the old grads. It is no differebt whether at university or nurseryschool.
The "superior child" makes no waves outside the requirements of the society.
Radicals need not apply
