Sorry for another OT mail, but the nephew of a friend, of a friend who
is writing his thesis out in the Far East and is woefully handicapped
by using a Chinese (Mandarin) keyboard and browser, is looking for the
Rainer Maria Rilke poem which contains: "Suddenly the catcher of a
ball". Rilke wrote in German, but only this English version is
available.

My question to all you literary Clayart buddies: Have you any tips on
how to source short quotations using a search engine? This is
particular one is so difficult because in only contains very common
words, but I would be grateful for any help you could give. Please
reply off-list. Thanks!

Many thanks for all the kind Clayarters who took time to look, search,
find and pass on their findings to me... The methodology is the
precious part, so for all those of you who are also not born search
engine users let me pass this onto you too:

TIP #1 Type in the phrase you are looking for WITH quotation marks:
"Suddenly the catcher of the ball"

TIP #2 Add the author's name before or after the quote: "Suddenly the
catcher of the ball" Rilke

Nothing turn up? Or too many?

Go to "Advanced Search" in by clicking the button on the main google
page.

#1: In the space WITH THE EXACT PHRASE type in "Suddenly the catcher
of a ball" (The quotation including quotation marks)

#2: In the space WITH AT LEAST ONE OF THE WORDS: type in Rilke (the
author)

I have always used google, but never used the "advanced" function
before. Also, I have avoided using symbols like quotation marks. Armed
with the new knowledge several buddies have sent, I bet there is
nothing on the internet which is not accessible! Amazing!! Thanks very
much everyone! I'll let you know if I ever get any reply from that
nephew of the friend-of-a-friend out in China...

Janet Kaiser - where the warm, sunny, spring day finished with a
glorious sunset and it was still daylight at 7 p.m. Chilly now
though... Ground frost forecast.
