I don't have a clue as to how many full time fine artists might be among the
Clayart subscribers; but however many there are, I'd bet most would find
public bragging and chest thumping to be in worst taste than anything John
Waters might put in a movie.

You wanna know why? Because this list isn't full of cocky jerks like you.
The concept of humility is NOT foreign to the other members of the list who
might fall into your category of full time fine artists. Hey, I tried to be
nice...even used the words "self confidence" when cocky was what I really
wanted to say. You just don't get it.

I gave you three names of artists who I know have been at it for a long
time. Instead of saying "Wow, three other people making a living on their
art, that's great." You tell me my friends are going to starve and be dead
and gone in a year and accuse me of trying to devastate you. Do you wish
that on them so you can regain your title? You are so full of caca. Don't
pretend to care about the masses when you really don't give a damn.

Carla.

I think there are many artists working full time at their art, and even more
impressive, they work full time on their art, full time on their families,
and part or full time at an outside job. That is something to be commended!
To be able to create art and manage life at the same time.... a hard task to
do, but one that many artists find a way to handle. I find it amazing when
someone boasts they are a full time artist and support themselves when they
receive monies to live on from other family members, or are part of a team
effort... i.e. working spouse who provides a stable income. I am one of
these .... I would feel like a liar if I stated that I was a full time, self
supporting artist... yes my art generates enough income to support itself,
and add a bit to the family income, however without my husbands salary it
just wouldn't do. I work at least 40 hours a week on my art, I work 24/7
with my 2 kids, and providing a home for my family, I teach whenever I can to
supplement my income, and I am now looking for a part time job 2 or 3 days
out of the house a week so that I can help more with funding my son who is
off to college this summer. I am a sculptor, so selling is tricky... but
that is part of my challenge.... creating art that can find a place in
anothers home... creating levels of work, so that I don't depend soley on
selling larger sculpture pieces, but don't compromise the integrety of my
work by making nic nacks... it is a business, it is my passion, and it is
important that it contributes to my familys income, as well as supports all
art related activities.
