If anyone is going to La Meridianna, I'd like to ask a favor.

When I was there , I did a 3 foot statue of a dog caryatid which was
fired AFTER I left..No, I'm not asking you to put it in your suitcase...I
just would love to see what it looked like after firing..so..if you are
going to Italy , and have it in your heart to bring together a parent
and lost child, I'd be so grateful for a photo of it..

Dear Elca,
I'll take a digital pic and email it to you. It looks great, I just don't have a
photo of it.
It has a certain "Charlie" mystique. -really great.

I work at Manatee Community College, in Bradenton, (a 45 minute drive
each way from sarasota)a great clay center and people are always welcome
to look around. You register as an unmatriculated student and then have
the run of the place..I left my studio and business with the snow drifts,
when we moved to Florida 5 years ago..

Dear all

Thank you all for your messages.

About mosquitoes - I'm going in in April, so I'm hoping the little stinkers
haven't woken up yet, although they always seem to find me - I have been
mosquito bitten in the middle of winter in Greece, there was snow on the ground, but
they were obviously waiting for me to get there!

I knew about the Uffizzi and Accademia advance booking, definitely planning
to do that. When I first went to Italy, late 1960s, it was out of tourist
season and I didn't have any problem with getting into places. Nowadays, tourist
season seems to be all year round.

Tony - I will start saving right NOW, would love to share a chianti or two
with you (and discuss clay of course, if necessary)! I was very tempted to do
Pietro's clay and cooking fortnight but sadly it was just too far above my
budget, so I am "settling" for a week of raku instead. But the food and wine and
cooking and clay and wine course does sound fantastic.

Ciao

Jenny

jenny,
i forgot to mention, (maybe you know it),
but many who dont speak italian,
mistake faenza for firenze (florence).
take the train from firenze to faenza, thru the appennini
mountains, its a fabulous train ride with no turists,
only local people traveling from village to village...
and talking about mosquitos... well good luck! i was
eaten up by those blood thirty italian mosquitos!
i will find my saved fotos and will forward them to you,
of course if i can find them on my messy computer!
have a great trip,
ciao,marta

Here's a question for anyone who's been to La Meridiana since 2002. I
was there in May that year with Marcia Selsor. I'm wondering if the
"Leaf Goddess" arch we created was installed anywhere? And does
anyone have pictures of the built-into-the-hillside seating we worked on?
Obviously I need to return to check these things out myself.
Ciao,
Marty Morgan
in Gloucester, MA a week away from our 6th Empty Bowl event, 600
bowls in boxes, and counting.

Many thanks to Peggy Clarke in New York for her contribution.

Hey, I''m new to clayart, turned on by a friend, but not new to clay. I'm taking two workshops back to back at La Meridiana this summer, Paperclay and Smoke Firing. Last week in July and the first in August. Anyone out there going? I live just north of Boston, teach ceramics at a private boys school and have a studio at home where I also teach (who doesn't!) I've heard great things about La M. and Pietro, looking forward to it. dale

hi all--i am considering a trip to la meridiana this summer--for the over
all experience and setting as well as the pottery aspect of the place. i
would love to hear feedback from people who have been there...anyone out
there have an opinion?

thanks,
drake ash

Jenny Lewis on mon 3 oct 11

Hi Drake

and anyone else thinking of visiting La Meridiana. My advice is -
GO!!! I've been and would love to go again some time. Do not
hesitate too much, in case they get booked up! Grab a guidebook and
check where else to visit - it's conveniently near to some wonderful
places, being approx halfway between Siena and Florence. Also quite
close to San Gimigniano and Volterra.

It's a stunningly beautiful part of the world. Pietro Is charming and
welcoming. All in all, it's a great experience.
