Just thought I'd let you know my experience with tools from Chris was
great! I received my kanna trimmer and "thumper" in record time and all
my correspondence with Chris was positive and extremely helpful.

I am delighted with my kanna-a trimmer tool that can be sharpened and
plan to order more very soon.

The thumper is going to take some practice. I am planning to use it to
open bowls and am finding it hard to change old habits. It is a
beautiful piece of finished wood that is a pleasure to hold. If I can't
change my way of opening, I can always use the thumper as a "worry
stone" .just to feel its smoothness.

Chris' website is: http://www.hominid.net/toolpage2.htm.

just a quick note to mention that my custom handmade tools made by Chris
Henley arrived yesterday and they are better than expected. In fact, one of
them is so wonderful looking (made with some red grain exotic wood) that I
hate to get it dirty with clay! I highly recommend his honesty and
craftsmanship!

Once you get your hands on them you will wish all your tools were made by
him. One of the ones I have is a trimming knife I had him make out of ebony.
Now I admit to having a bit of a 'thing' about ebony, but I have found
myself at the grocery store with this wood knife in my pocket, and my
fingers massaging the sensuous wood. He does a beautiful job of finishing
the tools - they are definitely 'fondling' material.

I too can vouch for Chris Henley's tools. I have several of his
"kanna", including a tiny one he made for me just for trimming very
small bowls. Each tool is beautiful and a pleasure to use.

Tony C. spoke of Chri's tools. They've been
mentioned on Clayart many times. I have
maybe six of them myself. They are works
of beauty ..... so beautiful, in fact, that non-
potter friends have suggested that I frame a
set to hang on the living-room wall. The
selected materials and the craftsmanship
are extraordinary. =20

The link to Chris's page is=20
www.hominid.net/toolpage2.htm

Actually, the pictures on his website don't do
Chris's tools justice .... they need to be=20
held in one's own hands to get the full impact.

In June of 2003 a donor offered some of Chris's
tools to claybuds who couldn't buy them. =20
Believe me, they were immensely appreciated.....
as was the interaction between the claybuds
and Chris who is a passionate, caring man.....
as well as a toolmaker.

Yes, indeed, Tony's point is well taken. A
town has room for at least two toolmakers,
especially a town where all residents are
potters.

Thanks for reminding us, Tony.
