OK, guys, it's your substitute moderator here. I am doing pretty well for my first solo, reading posts, OK -ing them and sending them on, but certain posts are being rejected and I am getting a failure notice that says:

Message from yahoo.com.
Unable to deliver message to the following address(es).

:
209.115.31.36 failed after I sent the message.
Remote host said: 500 Line too long.

--- Original message follows.

does that make sense to anyone?

In the middle of the night I went surfing for the meaning of "500 line too long". I first jumped to the conclusion that the POST is too long -- and a majority of the posts were over 5K in size -- but some that looked short were also returned. Anyway it seems that 500 can be a code for the COMMAND line (which, I reasoned, means the "ok" I type in the upper left hand corner of the body of the message.) I began leaving space between the OK and the body of the text, reasoning that the machine that gets the messages was reading the OK as the beginning of a longer line. Today, though, I am still getting posts returned using that method.

It's only a few, and I have compromised by cutting and pasting the text and forwarding them under my own email addy. So far I have not lost anybody's post, but that method is going to get old by saturday.

John at ACERS says there is no length limit for the listserver. There is also no length limit at yahoo (the email I am using). Mel has never had this problem, nor has joyce. I DID get the exact same message from clayart when one of my ivillage messages was refused a week or more ago (before I took over the moderator chair.)

If anybody has any ideas, please email me at primalmommy@ivillage.com or primalmommy@yahoo.com . I can provide more info/forward the entire message off list if I need to.

Meanwhile, a bit of advice: really long posts seem to have more trouble than short ones. Please don't include several posts at the bottom of the one you send (which annoys folks like me who get a their posts in digest anyway. We have to scroll past all those redundant posts to get to the new ones...) If you have a long post, maybe send it in 2 parts.

Looking forward to wisdom, guesses, magic spells, whatever I can get at this point.

Yours, Kelly in Ohio... who has suddenly gotten over feeling poorey about missing NCECA, since I have come up with some as-yet-undiagnosed bug (biological, not computer) that has me feverish and sleeping most of the day. And what a nice thing that I can feel useful doing clayart this week, since I'm accomplishing little else. Just imagine if I had scrounged together the cash for the trip... and ended up this sick at the conference.
