Heck. Showed up at my studio this morning with a customer only to discover
that the handle to the garage door had been ripped off...opened up the
studio, all the lights were on. Oddly, no clay, wheels, or kilns were
missing! Just my stereo, good speakers, and, sigh, my beloved copy of
Carole King's Tapestry which my partner gave me for Valentines Day, and most
of the other cd's.

Makes me feel yucky.

Dear johnathan,
I am sorry to hear you had a breakin as I KNOW THE FEELING VERY WELL.I have
had a series of them and they have taken their toll on me emotionally. Some
were very heavy handed on the vandalism and did many thousands of dollars
of structural damage to the building others took my entire 20 years of recent
work on paper, another took all my art supplies{I am an artist in other
media as well} AND THE HAUL WAS CONSIDERABLE, others took even my business
liscense, my files and rolodex and photo collection and all my cameras and
accessories, my tent and much much more that was tool boxes of tools I'd made
and collected all my career.
The stuff was not id'ed in any way and I had no photos of the studio nor real
proof of most of the value and no business insurance to cover the losses.I
was ignored by the sheriff's as a crank and they acted like they doubted
someone would want such stuff but when I went looking for it at flea markets,
antique malls, want ads, Ebay and auctions i did see similar stuff going for
good money so there was definitely a market.I found no matter what locks nor
what security system was employed if a robber wants your stuff they can get
in[PEOPLE TOLD ME STORIES THAT WOULD MAKE THE HAIR ON YOUR BACK RAISE UP]
and get what they want.
I even had one enter when I slept on the couch with a bell on the door.Scared
the @#$$% OUT OF ME AND THANKFULLY THEY RAN.
I did find they repeated their targets when the stuff was what they wanted
and most insurance companies will drop your coverage after 2 such
incidents.{I KNOW THAT FROM MY DAUGHTER'S FORMER JOB WITH A MAJOR
INSURER}.There was a site a fellow here set up to list stolen stuff but how
that worked out is anyone's guess.{I may have it if you are interested}.
One of my robbers seems to have set themselves up in the pottery business
in the Houston ,TX area { I caught them but got no coop from the police, they
were doing renovation on my studio}.I now have small cameras set up can see
who the perp is and it might catch them if I EVER AM THEIR VICTIM, but I
doubt it will stop it.
Sorry for your losses.I am sure you are much more able to deal with this
than I was as it has taken something away from me that I never have been
the same and when 911 happened I KNEW JUST WHAT THOSE PEOPLE WENT THRU BUT
FELT SO LUCKY MY LOVED ONES WERE NOT THE CASUALTIES{I do not mean to
diminish their losses} as I think I have been suffering from a form of post
traumatic stress since.
i admire your posts and hope this is not going to get you down as you seem
much stronger than I am these days.
