bracing at the wheel.

Pardon the intrusion but:
If a considerable force needs to be exerted to centre a pug of clay and =
the only way to do this is to wedge one's elbow into the groin, thigh or =
hip area, then it might be advisable to check on the degree of =
plasticity of the clay. The leverage exerted by an eight stone person is =
considerable so it sounds to me as thought the clay which is being used =
is to hard for the task.
To brace ones arms to attain stability and prevent wavering is something =
I can understand. But to use a clay which is not of a workable =
consistency, soft and easily deformed but retains it's shape, can lead =
to many health problems.
Best regards,
Ivor.

It really isn't a considerable force...just another approach to
steadying/bracing like you understand. for me it expediates the process and
allows for a less strain on my wrists. I whole heartedly agree that soft
clay is a must. I never attempt to use clay that is stiff..I adjust it or
use it in the extruder if I'm being too lazy. That probably should've been
stated originally.
