firing with broken cone holder

I didn't know this until someone showed it to me, but you can fire an
electric kiln equipped with a sitter without using a cone in the sitter.
Just hold the switch lever up as if there was a cone holding it up, push
the switch button to start the kiln, and then very slowly lower the
lever. The kiln will not shut off until the timer stops, you turn the
switches off, or you raise and quickly drop the switch lever.
