Ned, people around here can find fault with all kinds of things in your posts,
including spelling. Not everybody, but with 2000 or so people, some one will.

Hi Ned, I hate to confess I am spelling impared. I was born without the
necessary gene. Rather than inflict my disability upon you all, I have with
great soul searching taken to subjecting my remarks to spell check. It has
till now saved my bacon. As to the future.....?....Rikki Gill

Hello Rikki,

Oooh, I can't resist this ...

With respect, albeit at the risk of incurring listwide ire, may I
mischievously suggest that no program will be necessary once you you
learn to spell. If you choose not to, then who are the Philistines
here?

Gotcha! ... nothing personal, Rikki! :-)

Consider: If we give machines the job of vetting our words for us how
long will it be before they start thinking for us? The Matrix looms...

Or am I being hopelessly politically incorrect again? ;-)

Sounds like it's time for Netscape! It does a good job on email.
I'm on a Mac and the word is that NC 6 isn't debugged yet, so I
use 4.79. Don't know about the numbers for PC versions...And you
can have more than one person have their own set up and profile:
Their own bookmarks and email folders. I love that since hubbie
and I both work at home,,, Netscape doesn't do well in all web
sites. It seems that IE allows for screwy html code and IE is
more forgiving. I have IE on hand for some of my web
browsing.....boy DON"T you hate monopolies!?

Ned states that no program will be necessary once you learn to spell.

Well, that means a steep learning curve for all those on list in the USA and
Canada:-)
When you have the spelling right, how about learning how to pronounce the
words?
Even bigger :-)

Dear Martin,

When you lot in Britain agree on the pronunciation of even the simple
words, we'll start to pay attention. You forgot how to pronounce most
words: we remembered.

And while we're at it, I understand most English speakers in this world
live in India. And Indian English is a whole different language.

the worst thing about dictionaries is that when you are dyslexic you waste more
time trying to find something in the dictionary. at least with the spell check,
I can see correctly spelled words that are the wrong homonym by context

Millie in Md. someone told me that there was a group called DAM, Mothers against
Dyslexia. She realized that I was dyslexic when I didn't laugh and wanted to know
more.

It seems that there a real need for a dyslexic dictionary.
Something like the Thesaurus but much fuller.
It would help if eventually the different versions of English could merge so
that all spelling became the same, and was logical phonetically. But that
would mean we would have to pronounce words the same the world over.
But we brits say you yanks are wrong and visa versa.
All over Europe I find people taught US pronunciation and spelling,
and we have to begin their education all over again. Big job:-)

Of course we could all learn the real international language as our second
language, ... I think you know what I am talking about there!

Dear Rikki Gill

What these good spellers do not realize is that their ability to spell
is dependent on a constant and total exposure to correct spelling . All it
would take is for the small percentage of us that are more creative with our
spelling to publish 'sans edit' and we can bring the whole 'spelling B' to
it's knees.

NOW ! THEY HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Can't spell, have a heck of a time keeping the checkbook register straight,
and sometimes have to read a paragraph three times to "get the drift".
Think it's a "right brain"/"left brain" thing. Judith
