June 5-9, ABANA is having their conference in Lacrosse, WI. This is like
the blacksmith's version of our NCECA conference. Mark is going and I've
been debating if I should go along.(beginning of our busy season).
Blacksmithing has been having a resurgence as an art/craft form, sort of
reminds me of where clay was 20 years ago. I went along to his ABANA
conference 4 yrs ago in Ashville NC. and found it almost as invigorating as
the NCECA I went to(not quite though!). There were metal exhibits in town in
conjunction with it. One was 'Women in Metal' which was all work by women
blacksmith's.The work was awesome with a sometimes very notable different
perspective. They do have their conferences in more outdoor settings. I
guess the Hyatt Hotels wouldn't think too much of a bunch of smokey coal
fires and big hammers banging away for the demos.
