Try state and local public funding sources. There should be someone in the arts in
your area that can tell you where to start. The NEA wheels grind exceeding slow, so
seek help in grant proposal writing and work the resources close to home the
hardest. It'll feel like shoveling concrete, but there is public and private money
out there for community arts centers. In OR, most funding is coordinated through a
state agency. The scene in AZ is much more mixed - gotta tap in to the support
network that exists in a much more ad hoc way. Anyway, it still comes down to
finding out who to talk to, whether its endowments, foundations, 1% for art
mandates, private individuals, politicians. Grungy street fighting work, but that's
where the money can be found.

Where are you located?
