smug mug exchange

Are you kidding, Gregory? You'd not accept some of the gorgeous tiles =
that have come through our Clayart Mug Exchange ........ or the =
teabowls..... or the unusual pieces generous clayarters have selected =
from among their very best... selected them because they want some bud, =
known or not, to have a chance to share ... to "know" .... a little of =
the giver. If you simply want a nice mug, go buy one, or have a =
private, off-list swap... or throw one exactly like you'd prefer to draw =
in the exchange. Those of us who have yet to produce a truly worthy pot =
take our best shot ... and hope it will give a second's pleasure as a =
small memory is evoked by sight of the glaze or the scribbled 'Joyce in =
the Mojave,' a moment of warmth, or (even better) a chuckle ..... or, as =
in my case, a "she's getting better; look at the rim, the carbon trap... =
better ..." as my mug is admired from a different standard than a more =
expert potter's would be.... I received Marta's juice glass last year =
(I'm using it for juice, anyway, perfect) and Earl's tenmoku mug. =
They're very different from one another and are used by someone in my =
household almost daily. They both happen to be wonderful pots, but if =
they weren't I'd still use them..... I received them in the CLayart =
EXchange, after all.=20

I treasure Meticky Liz's luscious shino mug that she brought me ...... I =
also treasure the small, kind but amused, smile my Not Quite There Yet =
mug I brought to her (only because I keep my word, and I wasn't about to =
give hers back) elicited. Nice moment. We both knew I won't quit .. =
and someday I'll replace it with a better one. But this year I may =
offer small soup bowls ... they seem to be working out rather well right =
now ... mugs continue to be rather iffy.

It's fantastic and touching at my age to have new objects, activities, =
obssessions and people ... people of passion, of quality ..... enliven =
my life... and to share with them. My gratitude is immense. I hope =
you with more restricting views can begin to feel some of that in time =
also. It's not about the pots ...... although we have a great time =
examining, admiring, laughing ... an evening of worth, most assuredly =
.... the point is to be together as potters, sculptors, clay people =
..... and ENJOY....
unabashedly ENJOY what we are. Stand aside, watch the action, hear the =
laughter, see the smiles ... for a minute or two simply FEEL the miracle =
of what's happening all around you in this time, this place, with this =
group.... and BE a part of it. =20

In the Mojave recalling Lori drawing my "She's Getting Better" mug last =
year and holding it up proudly from across the room to show me .... as =
if she'd won some sort of prize! Funny, I knew exactly how she =
felt....... somebody else wound up with my copper red mug ... wasn't =
great but the glaze was nice ...... didn't hear from that person ... =
maybe hoped she'd get one of the gurus ... luck of the draw .... don't =
blame the person but feel empathy for the heart that has difficulty =
going with the flow and Enjoying What Is ....=20

And it was a prize! I love my Queen of the Desert mug! By the way, my son
loves that mug, too... He has also been known to actually WASH (gasp!) it
so he can use it, even if there are other mugs available.
