a couple of things:

one, most viruss' attack `outlook express`.
why not use eudora.

you can even get it free.

i have taken outlook express off all of my computers.
i just remove it.
every computer i have ever had or will get...the first thing
i do is get all references to aol and outlook express taken off
the machine. (go right to the root.)

install eduora pro.

i get about 200 emails each day. i have two mailboxes at
pclink, one for clayart. i have never had a machine
infected with a virus. ( i know, be careful now.)

but, i have mcafee 5.0 and update twice a week. scan
three times a week.

the cost of owning a current version of mcafee, and eduora pro
have saved me thousands of dollars in money, time and frustration.

it is just like the car...maintenance. it costs almost nothing.

if all viruss' attack outlook express...why would you have it
on a machine? does not make sense to me.

i also keep a copy of clayart eudora on my D drive...just as a
back up...ready to go.

the other point.
if anyone sends me an attachment...i won't open
it...period, unless you write me ahead...let me know
what it is...and i am expecting it. so, don't send me
the plans of your kiln to look at, or a pix of your pot.
it just won't get seen (and why would anyone
open an exe.?) the big red delete key is right next
to my right little finger. just waiting. calling to me.
a siren of hope.

when considering a digital camera...think digital video.
two for one.

i can take stills and video. or, scan with the video and
select any frame. the quality of my video stills are superior
to my olympus still camera. (sold that one.)

windows xp downloads video so fast you don't even know
it happened.
just plug into the firewire port and it just does the download
without your help. i continue to be very pleased with this
new hp machine with xp. quick is not the word....it is even
fast than that.

50 degrees this morning...almost all the snow is gone.
but, we will get more. wait and see.

At our Gallery we got a virus even though we don't use Outlook.
Outlook is on our computer, but now I want to get it off. We
have always used Netscape for our email.. The virus file was an
Outlook file and we seem to have been sending out contaminated
emails to people even though we NEVER have used Outlook and
don't have any names in the Outlook address book! Some of the
addresses seem to have come from a cache file: a few had only
been used by someone who logged onto Hotmail from our computer!!
So we'll try cleaning Outlook out of our HD and watch those
email file sizes: we're not opening anything over 10k without
checking with the sender....
