Dear Marie Gibbons,

Argerol was Silver Protienate solution. It was used in the examination =
of eyes where the cornea had been damaged. This was done to me by a =
Nurse when I had scratched an eye with a sharp wire while winding a =
furnace element. I asked her about it. She told me it was often used in =
the steel mills and was a sure cure for Arc Eye, which is severe =
inflammation of the cornea due to scorching from an electric arc, often =
suffered by bystanders near a welder who is arc welding. Had to buy some =
once, to use in a factory in Scotland where I had worked all day =
applying hardsurfacing alloy to some mixer plates. Everyone in the =
factory was affected, not from direct rays, but from flash reflections =
from walls and ceiling.

Silver nitrate was used by midwives to bathe newly born infants eyes to =
prevent infections from venereal diseases. It is a potent bactericide.

Best regards,

Ivor Lewis. Demonstrating trivial knowledge.

I wonder if that's the same as the colloidal silver sold in some health food
stores...sure fixed up a mysterious sore mouth I had once...all my doctor's
solutions hadn't done a thing!

Dear Kate Johnson,

Argarol is a black liquid. I am not sure what "Colloidal Silver" is.

But when a small quantity of common salt solution is put into a weak =
silver nitrate solution you get a yellow white precipitate which takes a =
long time to settle out and if it is exposed to a strong light it goes =
dark in colour due to the release of elemental silver on the silver =
chloride crystals.

Best regards,

Ivor.
