That could be it! Do you have a recipe? I see by your address your my
neighbor so to speak. I just took the position here at Ohio Wesleyan- when
Rinda left -the recipes left too. There are some glazes the students are
attached to- thought I'd try and find it.
Thanks so much for your help.
I would like the recipe when you get a moment.

Phyllis
Welcome to the neighborhood. Below is the recipe for Ohata Red and
Persimmon, thery are both calcium iron reds with bone ash. I think you may
want to test them both.

Ohata
Custer 43.3
Silica 19.3
Kaolin 5.6
Talc 5.6
Whiting 6.4
Bone Ash 8.8
Red iron oxide 9.6
Bentonite 1.4

Persimmon
Custer 35
Silica 15
Kaolin 4
Talc 4
Whiting 5
Bone Ash 7
Red iron oxide 9
Bentonite 1.4

This is the first time I actually looked at these recipes and they are
pretty clos to being the same. Test them. Let me know if you are looking
for any other recipes, I will be happy to share.

I would like to know more about Wesleyan's program. Could you e-mail me off
Clayart and give me a brief desciption of your program?

Thanks
Dennis

Hi Phyllis:
Harata Red, sometimes called Ohata Iron or Oharata Red can be found in Robert
Piepenburg's "The Spirit of Clay" on page 313 and is listed as follows:
43.0% Kona F-4 Feldspar
19.0% Flint
9.0% Bone Ash
6.0% Whiting
5.5% EPK Kaolin
5.5% Talc
2.0% Bentonite
10.0% Red Iron Oxide

This is meant to be fired at cone 10 in reduction, and I have found it to be
a very reliable and beautiful Red glaze.

Good Luck.
