low fire sculpture glazes

I've checked the archives exhaustively and can't find
what i'm looking for--a cone 04 (ish) clear matte or
satin base without Gerstley borate. For finely detailed
figural work, over slips, and maybe with stains. Anybody
out there working with something like this?
Thanks,
Kathy Whipple

Kathy, I posted a glossy clear ^06-04 recipe but forgot to add this --

It is my understanding that the relative glossiness or mattness of a
glaze is determined by the amount of clay in a glaze. Ranges from an
engobe..to..gloss glaze. You could play around with the recipe and do test
tiles to obtain the desired matte or satin effect you are looking for.
Perhaps some of the glaze guru's could comment on the possibilities.

Regards,
Carolsan

It looks to me like cone 5-6 glaze. Did you test it in 06?
I copied it because I looked for 06 glaze and wanted to see if I can
use it with my materials but I don't think it melts or clear in 06 or 04

Kathy:

Try this recipe from Richard Behrens' Ceramic Glazemaking. It is a satin
glaze.

Glaze III
Wollastonite 14.2
Hommel Frit 14 or Ferro 3134 34.5
Potash Feldspar 30.1
Kaolin 9.3
Silica 11.9

Hope this helps.

Be careful with this glaze - it has a very low expansion rate and will
break ware under some conditions.
